For the first time in a long while, I feel like I’ve arrived at a place where I trust my own decisions again.

I’m looking at this painting, and I don’t feel the urge to keep fixing it. That’s new.

There may only be one step left: adding a few carefully placed areas of thick titanium-white impasto\u2014just enough to catch the light and leave behind physical brush marks that become part of the painting’s history. Not everywhere. Just a few places where the surface itself becomes another voice in the composition.

Even if I never add them, I’m proud of where this piece ended up. It’s become the benchmark for where I want to go next.

I’ve been painting a lot lately, and honestly, most of the pieces have been exercises. Paint one. Learn something. Move on. Paint another. Learn something else. I wasn’t trying to create a masterpiece\u2014I was trying to get my hands back, rebuild my instincts, and rediscover what felt natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe finishing isn’t about adding more paint. Maybe it’s about recognizing the exact moment when the painting starts teaching you instead of the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either way, this painting marks a turning point. It’s the first one that truly feels like mine\u2014not because it’s perfect, but because it finally reflects the direction I’ve been trying to reach all along. \ud83e\udd27<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If, weeks from now, it still whispers for those last few impasto marks<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I’ll know exactly where they belong. If it stays quiet, then maybe it was already finished the day I stopped trying to improve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
