Cubism- 👾Description

It’s mostly monochromatic—red, white, and black

—but it has enough variation in the brushwork that it feels alive. Every layer taught me something. Instead of fighting the canvas, I finally felt like I was working with it.

This painting is the first one that made me stop. Conclusion – How do you finish a painting like this?

For the first time in a long while, I feel like I’ve arrived at a place where I trust my own decisions again.

I’m looking at this painting, and I don’t feel the urge to keep fixing it. That’s new.

There may only be one step left: adding a few carefully placed areas of thick titanium-white impasto—just enough to catch the light and leave behind physical brush marks that become part of the painting’s history. Not everywhere. Just a few places where the surface itself becomes another voice in the composition.

Even if I never add them, I’m proud of where this piece ended up. It’s become the benchmark for where I want to go next.

I’ve been painting a lot lately, and honestly, most of the pieces have been exercises. Paint one. Learn something. Move on. Paint another. Learn something else. I wasn’t trying to create a masterpiece—I was trying to get my hands back, rebuild my instincts, and rediscover what felt natural.

I think I’ll hang it on the wall for a while and simply live with it.

Maybe you don’t.

Maybe finishing isn’t about adding more paint. Maybe it’s about recognizing the exact moment when the painting starts teaching you instead of the other way around.

Either way, this painting marks a turning point. It’s the first one that truly feels like mine—not because it’s perfect, but because it finally reflects the direction I’ve been trying to reach all along. 🤧

If, weeks from now, it still whispers for those last few impasto marks

I’ll know exactly where they belong. If it stays quiet, then maybe it was already finished the day I stopped trying to improve it.

“I’m not sure why this isn’t just over and done with. I mean, the job is finished, so why are these people still lingering around here? I just want to wrap it up and move on to the brand-new Jimmy Neutron project we’re making. But somehow, I don’t really know why it’s dragging on. I had planned to cut the entire comic into little panels so everyone could read it easily. ButBut now that it’s done, I just feel like I’m worn out and don’t wannado anything else [THE CRUNK@!]. I know it’s probably worth it since it’s the best comic I’ve made so far, and I could spend the day cutting it up, but I’m just not sure.”317 Fraawgz Lair station. #echoofthevaults #comic #job well-done #A N T H E M ☠️💀☠️
